About EFILE Log

The EFILE Log allows you to view the details of all transactions transmitted or received using the electronic services.

Display

To display the EFILE Log, click , then EFILE Log.

Just as in the Client Manager and the Form Manager, tools are available to allow you to perform quick searches and customize the display of the EFILE Log.

Each line in the EFILE Log corresponds to a transaction and there may be more than one transaction per return.

Review code 2139 means that the CRA is performing pre-assessment verification on this return. Supporting documentation may be requested. Please do not submit any documentation unless you are asked to do so.

Review code 24 means that the CRA may perform a verification of this taxpayer's return. Where applicable, the processing may be delayed and supporting documentation may be requested. Please do not submit any documentation unless you are asked to do so.

When you select a transaction in the EFILE Log, the information about the transaction will be displayed in the lower pane. To print the information in the lower pane, right-click anywhere in the pane, then click Print Details on the shortcut menu.

Different types of EFILE transactions may appear on the EFILE Log:

  • Authorization - Transmission of data of Form AUTHORIZATION to the CRA;
  • T1135 - Transmission of data of Form T1135 to the CRA;
  • Transmission - Transmission of tax return information;
  • PAD - Transmission of pre-authorized debit agreement;
  • ERR - Error report when errors are received concerning an EFILE or NetFile Québec transmission;

The following columns appear by default in the EFILE Log:

Title

Contents

Date

Date and time that the transaction was transmitted or received.

Agency or department concerned.

Transaction

Type of transaction.

Client

Client's identification.

SIN

Taxpayer’s social insurance number.

Errors

Number of errors reported.

Transmission #

Number assigned to the transmission of a federal return or T1135 form that has been rejected.

DCN

Document Control Number assigned to the transmitted return or unique document number in the case of a Authorization transmission.

Confirmation

The confirmation number for EFILE, Authorization transmission, T1135 transmission or Taxprep Print Service.

CRA Note

If code 2139 or 24 is displayed, it indicates that the return has been selected for pre-assessment review. For Authorization transactions, a code starting with W indicates that the AUTHORIZATION form has been accepted dependent on certain CRA parameters indicated through the condition code. Otherwise the field will be blank.

The following columns can also be added to the EFILE Log:

Contents

Transaction File

Transmission file name.

Client File

Name of the client file concerned by the transaction.

Client Path

Location of the client file being electronically filed.

Receiver

User or tax authority receiving the transaction.

Sender

User or tax authority (e.g. the CRA) initiating the transaction.

Transmitter number

May contain the EFILE number, the preparer number (NetFile Québec) or the account number.

To print transactions in the EFILE Log, proceed as follows:

  1. Click the button, then click EFILE Log.

  2. On the File menu, click Print EFILE Log.
    The Print EFILE Log dialog box is displayed.
  3. Select the printer you want to use.
  4. Modify the print settings, if applicable.
    • To print the document to a PDF file, select the Print to PDF file check box.
    • To modify the paper orientation, click Portrait or Landscape.
  5. Click OK.

All transactions currently displayed in the EFILE Log will be printed. If you want to print only a portion of the transactions in the EFILE Log, use the filters available in the EFILE Log title bar or in the Advanced toolbar to reduce the number of transactions displayed.

Tip: The width of the EFILE Log will vary, depending on the contents of the various columns. However, when the EFILE Log includes all the available columns, it is unlikely that everything appears on a single page in a readable format, even if you print in a landscape format. Therefore you may want to remove some of the columns in the EFILE Log prior to printing.

To print the details for a transaction (it could be a transmission, a Receipt or a confirmation from Wolters Kluwer), proceed as follows:

  1. Click the button, then click EFILE Log.

  2. Select the transaction for which you want to print the details.
  3. In the lower pane of the EFILE Log, right-click and then click Print Details on the shortcut menu.

You can customize the EFILE Log display by modifying the number of columns, by adjusting the columns' width and by modifying the display order. The program retains the customized setting: thus, in your next work session, this customized display is automatically reapplied.

You can modify the width of one column at a time or all at the same time based on their content.

If a high number of columns is displayed and this situation makes the reading of data difficult in the EFILE Log, you can disable the columns' automatic adjustment which is limited to the space on the screen by default. To do so, proceed as follows:

  1. Put the cursor on a column header,
  2. Right-click and then click Fit to Window on the shortcut menu.

Once this option is disabled, you can widen columns beyond the space available on the screen. An horizontal scroll bar appears allowing you to display the columns.

You can also reset the columns in order to return to the original settings.

Note: Some of the information in the EFILE Log, such as the TCN column, would normally only be used to provide information to the tax authorities for troubleshooting purposes. You may therefore want to hide these types of columns. You can always restore them later if needed.

To customize the content of the EFILE Log, you can:

  • Filter

You can filter the list of electronic transaction according to the columns content. For more information consult the Filter Based on the Content of One Column topic.

  • Search

To find a specific transaction or transactions, enter the search text in the Search ( Ctrl+F) box on the toolbar. The search results will be displayed in the EFILE Log.

Tip: Enter the client name in the Search (Ctrl+F) box to find all of the transactions relating to that client.
